Questions about your talisman

What people ask before they make one and after they seal it: how the drawing follows your birth date, what the $9 includes, who can see it, and how anyone can check that it is genuine.

01

The talisman

What is an Amuen talisman?

A talisman drawn for one person. Your birth date decides its ring, and six questions decide the rest: what you hope for, the element you trust, your hour, the line cut beneath your name, the light it lives in and the name it carries.

When you seal it, it takes a number in the Amuen ledger that is never issued again, and you receive it as wallpapers, a 4K print, a one-minute moving loop, a written reading and a numbered certificate.

What is a talisman?

Something you keep close because it is yours and it holds a wish. Every culture has made them, from coins sewn into hems to symbols carved over doorways. Yours is drawn from your birth date and from the wishes you give it, so it carries the shape of your own intentions.

What is the difference between a talisman and an amulet?

In the old use of the words, an amulet was kept to turn harm away, and a talisman was made to draw something good toward the person who kept it: luck, courage, love or a safe return. A talisman was usually made for one person, often at a chosen hour, while the same amulet could be worn by many. An Amuen talisman follows the older custom. It is drawn from one birth date and holds the three things its owner wants most.

Can a talisman bring me luck?

People have carried talismans for luck since long before anyone wrote it down, and many will tell you theirs has stayed with them through the moments that mattered. Yours is made from what you want most. Set as your wallpaper or framed on a wall, it keeps that wish in front of you every day. How it works for you is between you and it.

Could someone else have the same one?

They would need to share your birthday and choose exactly as you did, and the chance of that is less than one in a billion. Even then each would carry its own number in our ledger, and that number is never given again. In the ledger you can also see how close any other talisman comes to yours, as a percentage, and bring the nearest ones to the top. It is a strange feeling to meet a talisman that is almost yours.

Is it a physical object?

No. It is a digital talisman and nothing is shipped. You keep it as wallpapers for your phone and screens, a moving loop, and a print file 4096 pixels square that you can have printed and framed.

What you do with it is yours to decide: a print on the wall, a wallpaper, a gift, even a tattoo. What you may not do is sell the files as a product of your own, or copy the way they are drawn. The terms say it in full.

02

How it is drawn

How is it made from my birth date?

Your birthday decides the shape of the ring, the number of its gates and the number at its crown, your life path number in numerology. The date itself runs around the rim in Roman numerals. Then you choose what it is for, the element you trust, the hour that feels like yours, which of four truths has always been yours, the light it lives in and the name it carries.

What does each answer change?

Each one adds a layer you can see, in the order you choose them.

  • Colours. The three things you want most, ranked. All three colour the talisman, and the first also becomes the light around it.
  • Element. Fire, water, stone or air fills its heart and spreads out from the centre.
  • Hour. The sun of dawn or the moon of midnight, drawn as it was on your birthday.
  • Line. One of four old signs cut beneath the lettering: the Door, the Vault, the Balance or the Circle.
  • Light. Natural light, warm light, cool light or darkness: the light it is charged in.
  • Name. Your full name or your initials, cut into the lettering band beside your life path number and birth date.

Every talisman shown in the ledger has a page where you can watch it being made, one answer at a time.

Why is there a sun or a moon on the ring?

Because the hour you choose is drawn from the real sky of your birthday. The sun or the moon sits at the point of the year you were born, and the arc of light around it is as long as that day was from sunrise to sunset, or that night from sunset to sunrise, measured at 52° north.

Born in midsummer, you carry a long arc of daylight. Born in midwinter, a short one. The moon is drawn in the phase it truly showed on the night you were born.

What are the lines around the outer band?

They count how far your talisman’s guard was from Earth on the day you were born, measured at noon. The guard is one of three planets the Romans trusted to keep watch, and your life path decides which: Mars for life paths 1, 4, 8, 9 and 22, Jupiter for 2, 3, 6 and 33, Mercury for 5, 7 and 11. Numerology already gives three of those numbers to these planets, 9 to Mars, 3 to Jupiter and 5 to Mercury, and every other number goes to the guard whose way of keeping is closest to its own. The first talismans, sealed before there were three guards, are all kept by Mars.

For Mars and Mercury each line is a million kilometres. Jupiter is so much further out that each of its lines is three million. Mars swings from 56 to 400 million kilometres away, Mercury from 82 to 217, Jupiter from 590 to 970, so the count belongs to your day. The hour you were born changes it by a line or two at most.

Mars guarded the boundary: once a year a Roman farmer walked his animals in a full circle around his land and asked Father Mars to keep sickness, ruin and bad weather outside it, a prayer Cato the Elder wrote down more than two thousand years ago. Jupiter was called the Guardian, and the stone of Terminus, god of boundaries, stood inside his temple on the Capitol. Mercury watched over roads and crossings, and travellers piled stones for him where they met. The outer band is the boundary of your talisman, so it is measured to its guard.

Can I keep my birth date off it?

Yes, wherever it is shown. After sealing, choose Take it off on your certificate page. The talisman then appears in the ledger and on its own page without the date on its rim or in its text. The life path stays, and your own files keep the full drawing. It is still drawn from that day, so if no one must know the date, keep the talisman private.

03

Life path numbers

What is a life path number?

In numerology, the single number your whole birth date reduces to, and the one most often read as the shape of a life. It is 1 to 9, or one of the master numbers 11, 22 and 33.

It chooses your talisman’s ring. There are nine rings, one for each number, and a master number takes the ring of the number it reduces to: 11 the ring of 2, 22 the ring of 4 and 33 the ring of 6. Find yours and read what it means.

How is a life path number calculated?

Month, day and year are each reduced to one digit, keeping 11, 22 and 33 whole, and the three results are added and reduced the same way.

For 17 July 1990: the month is 7, the day 17 becomes 1 + 7 = 8, and the year becomes 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19, then 1 + 9 = 10, then 1. Then 7 + 8 + 1 = 16, and 1 + 6 = 7. Life path 7.

The calculator shows every step for any date.

Which life path number is the rarest?

Of every birthday from 1920 to 2013, master number 33 is the rarest, at about one in 124. Then come 22 at one in 33, 2 at one in 22, 11 at one in 15, 4 at one in 12 and 6 at one in 10. The numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 9 each fall to about one birthday in nine.

The full table is on the life path page.

04

Sealing and files

How much does it cost?

Creating it is free, and you can change it as often as you like until it feels right. Sealing it, with your reading, the certificate and every file, is a single payment of $9. No account and no subscription.

What do I get when I seal it?

  • Your reading. What your number asks of you, and what every choice you made says about you.
  • Wallpapers for iPhone (1290 × 2796), Android (1440 × 3120), tablet (2048 × 2732) and a 4K desktop (3840 × 2160), each drawn at its own size and never cropped.
  • A 4K print, 4096 pixels square, about 35 cm across at 300 dpi, and a 2048-pixel square for a profile picture.
  • A one-minute loop of it slowly turning, as an MP4 or a WebM.
  • A numbered certificate as an A4 PDF, with a code anyone can check.
  • A place in the ledger, if you choose to show it.

Can I make one as a gift?

Yes. Enter their birth date and name, and make the choices for them or sit beside them while they choose. Once it is sealed, give them its private link, which opens their certificate, their reading and every file. The large square file can also be printed and framed as the gift itself.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no account and no password. When you seal your talisman you get a private link to its certificate page, where your files are made. Keep that link safe and to yourself: whoever has it can open your certificate page, change how your talisman is shown and make its files. To share your talisman, show it in the ledger and send its own public page.

What does a code do?

A code from us seals a talisman without payment. On the last step, choose Have a code? and enter it before you seal. A talisman sealed with a code has no email address on record, so keep its private link safe. If you lose it, write to us with its birth date and roughly when you made it, and we will find it.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Everything happens in your browser, so there is nothing to install. The wallpapers are drawn at 1290 × 2796 for iPhone and 1440 × 3120 for the taller Android screens. Your private link opens the certificate page on any device, so you can also make the files on a computer or a tablet.

Can I change it after sealing?

Its answers are fixed once it is sealed. That is what sealing means, and it is why everything before payment is free: you can change it as often as you like until it feels right, and the same birth date and answers will draw the same talisman tomorrow. Check the spelling of the name and the birth date before you seal.

What you can still change on your certificate page is how it is shown: in the ledger or kept private, the name it is shown with, whether the birth date stays on it and the Instagram username beside it.

Can I get a refund?

A sealed talisman is not refundable. Its number is written into the ledger the moment you pay and is never issued again, so there is nothing to return. That is why the whole talisman can be made and seen before you pay.

A fault is different. If the talisman does not open, the files do not download or you were charged twice, write to us and we will fix it or return the money. The terms explain it in full.

05

The ledger and privacy

What is the ledger?

The record of every sealed talisman. Each one takes the next number when it is sealed. Owners who choose to show theirs appear in the ledger, where anyone can browse them by life path, element, hour and light, and see how close another talisman comes to their own.

Is my talisman public?

Only if you choose. It stays private until you show it on your certificate page once it is sealed, and you can take it out of the ledger again at any time. Shown, it carries your initials or your full name, as you choose, and its birth date in Roman numerals unless you take the date off.

Can people find my talisman by my name on Google?

Only if you show your full name. A talisman shown in the ledger has a page of its own, and with your full name that page can appear in search results when someone searches for your name. With initials only, the page asks search engines not to list it. Take it out of the ledger and its page is gone, and search engines drop it once they see that.

Is my information kept private?

Your email is used for one thing: helping you if you ever lose your link. No tracking cookies. Your talisman appears in the public ledger only if you choose, and there you can show just your initials instead of your full name and leave your birth date off it.

What do you keep about me?

Only what the talisman is drawn from and what is needed to find it again: your birth date, your answers and the name or initials you engraved, the number and date it was issued, and the private key behind its link. If you paid, also the email address and payment reference from checkout; if you sealed it with a code, the code instead. If you choose to show it, we also keep how it is shown and the Instagram username you add.

Your card details never touch this site, and there are no cookies at all. The privacy page lists everything.

Can I have my talisman deleted?

Yes. Write to us with its number, from the email address you paid with, or, if it was sealed with a code, with its birth date and roughly when you made it. Deleting removes your answers, your name and everything else about you, along with its page and its certificate. We keep only its number, when it was sealed and how, so that the number is never given to anyone else.

06

Certificates and verification

What is the certificate?

An A4 sheet with your talisman, its number, the date it was issued and what it is made of. You download it as a PDF from your certificate page, and at its foot is the certificate code.

How can someone check that a talisman is genuine?

On the verify page. Enter the number and the ledger says when it was sealed and whether it is still valid. Enter the certificate code instead and it says which number the certificate belongs to. A talisman kept private is confirmed with its seal date alone.

What is the certificate code?

Eight characters, such as 4DFB-0DF6, made from your talisman’s private key. It is printed at the foot of the PDF and shown on your certificate page. It cannot be worked out from the number, so a certificate with its number changed no longer matches the code it carries. Nothing of the key can be read back from the code, so it is safe to show.

The quickest answer is to make one

It takes about three minutes and it is free to create. You only pay if you decide to seal it.
