About Amuen

Made for one person, the way talismans always were

An example, drawn for 22 March 1985

Amuen draws your talisman from the day you were born: your life path number, the sky as it was that day and the three things you want most. When you seal it, it takes a number in our ledger that no one else will ever hold.

Why we make them

The charms people kept were made for them

For as long as people have hoped for things, they have carried something to hold the hope. A coin sewn into a hem. A knot tied before a journey. A sign cut above a door. The ones kept closest were usually the ones made for someone, with a name, a date or a wish worked into them.

That is the kind of talisman Amuen makes. We have worked with numerology and astrology for many years, with the old meanings of numbers, colours and signs and with the astronomy beneath them, and we kept at it until every part of a talisman had a reason to be there and, wherever the sky is involved, a true measurement behind it.

What came out of it takes a few minutes to make. Your birth date sets the ring and the number it carries. The sky of that day sets your sun or your moon, and how far from the Earth the planet that guards your life path stood. You choose the rest. The talisman that results belongs to one person, and it looks like it.

How one is made

Seven steps, from your birth date to your name

This is the talisman from the top of the page, taken apart. Choose a step to see it as it stood at that point, or watch it being made from the start.

All seven steps
  1. Your date gives your life path number, and the number chooses one of nine rings. Its crown carries the number in Roman numerals and the date runs around the band. 11, 22 and 33 keep their own meaning and are drawn on the ring of their root.

  2. You pick three of nine wishes and put them in order. All three colour the talisman, and the first becomes the light around it.

  3. Fire, water, stone or air fills the heart of the talisman and moves out from the centre.

  4. Dawn sets your sun at its place in the year on your birthday, with an arc of light as long as that day. Midnight gives you the moon in the phase it truly showed that night. Around it, the lines of the outer band count the distance that day to the planet that guards your life path.

  5. One of four old signs is cut under the lettering: the Door, the Vault, the Balance or the Circle, each a different way of meeting what comes next.

  6. Natural light, warm light, cool light or darkness. In old traditions a charm was charged by the light it rested in, and yours carries the light you chose.

  7. Your name, in full or as initials, is cut into the band. Between the names or initials sits a small mark, one of eight. We do not choose it: it is the sum of your first wish, your element, your hour, your line and your life path number.

What we hold to

Four things every talisman keeps

The sky is real

Your moon is the moon of your birth night. The arc around your sun or moon is as long as that day or night was, measured at 52° north, and the guard’s lines come from the planet’s true distance that day, worked out from its orbit.

One number, never reused

When a talisman is sealed it takes the next number in the ledger, and that number is never issued again. Its certificate carries a code that anyone can check on our verify page.

Private until you choose

There is no account and no password. Your talisman lives behind a link that only you hold, and it appears in the ledger only if you decide to show it. You can take it out again at any time.

A wish kept in sight

For thousands of years people have kept a charm close and felt their wishes stay close with it. Yours holds what you asked for where your eyes fall every morning, and what you keep seeing, you keep moving toward. Give it a place of its own and let it remind you what it was made for.

Every birth date draws a talisman of its own

Making one is free. Seal it for $9 when it feels like yours, and it takes its number in the ledger, with its full reading, wallpapers for phone, tablet and desktop, a moving loop and a certificate anyone can verify.
